TerraModus Surveying is a small surveying firm based in Cairns. Established in 2007, we perform all types of surveys including cadastral surveys such as subdivisions and boundary identification surveys; contour and detail surveys; construction set-out surveys; and monitoring surveys. We perform surveys throughout Far North Queensland, predominantly in and around the Cairns, Tablelands and Cassowary Coast areas but we also travel extensively to some amazing parts of rural FNQ including Cape York.
We are currently seeking a motivated Survey Assistant to join our small team, commencing in mid-January 2026.
About you (Qualifications & experience)
- A current manual driver's licence is required.
- The ability to work away for short periods of time is required.
- Queensland Construction Industry White Card and current First Aid will be required (however successful applicant can obtain these on the job).
- Previous experience working outdoors will be highly regarded.
- Previous experience as a survey assistant and/or currently studying in a related course or degree will be highly regarded.
- Ability to work well in a small team to achieve a common goal.
- You are based in Cairns.
Tasks & responsibilities
- Assisting in field surveys (such as setting up field equipment, locating and placing survey marks, carrying equipment, clearing vegetation with brush hooks so measurements can be taken)
- Assist with the packing and maintenance of materials, survey equipment and vehicles
- Assisting with general office duties (occasionally as required)
- This role is predominantly an outdoors, physical role providing support to the Principal Surveyor
- The role is casual with varying hours each week. The role is not full time but there are guaranteed minimum hours each week.
- While experience as a survey assistant is preferred, on-site training will be provided to the successful applicant.
- This role may suit someone who is studying.
