Our Civil Justice Services team specialises in areas like Anti-Discrimination, Consumer Protection, Employment Law, Social Security and NDIS Appeals, and Inquests, while also supporting rural communities through the Farm and Rural Legal Service and managing the Civil Law Legal Aid Scheme (CLLAS).

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced or emerging legal professional to contribute to a wide range of civil law matters. You will work with vulnerable Queenslanders, providing essential legal services that have meaningful impacts. The work is challenging, complex, and highly rewarding.

Key responsibilities include:

* Representing clients in civil law cases, including court representations, tribunal appearances, mediations, and conciliation conferences.
* Providing legal advice, assistance, and drafting key documents, applications, and submissions for clients.
* Delivering civil law services through diverse modes, including phone, videoconferencing, and face-to-face interactions.
* Supporting the development of innovative legal advice guides, case management practices, and resources such as factsheets.
* Engaging and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to maintain strong professional networks.

The ideal candidate

You should demonstrate clear, concise, and articulate communication skills, including the ability to engage with clients with complex needs using a trauma-informed approach. Additionally, we are looking for someone with the capacity to advocate effectively before courts, tribunals, and commissions, and who displays key leadership competencies such as accountability, delivering results, and building positive relationships.

Additional requirements

* A criminal history check and a serious disciplinary history check will be conducted for recommended applicants.
* Disclosure of lobbying activities and any conflict of interest will be required prior to employment commencement.
* This role may involve exposure to traumatic materials or working with traumatised individuals.
