MG Kailis Lobster is looking for a first mate for the FV Cape Grafton II. This role is aimed at training the successful applicant to be able to take command of the vessel in its role of product transport between the Torres Strait and cairns. The Cape Grafton II runs a crew of 4 (Master, First Mate and 2 GBH) the vessel works on a 1-week turnaround from its departure in cairns to returning from the Straits, working a 3 on 1 off roster to accommodate the fishing closure in the Torres straits. Current Certification required to apply for this position, Master 5s, MED 2s, First Aid and Advanced Resuscitation.
Duties for this role include but not limited to;
running the deck
Supervising the GBHs during vessel departures and arrivals i.e. making sure the correct ropes are set up, fenders in likely contact spots
Overseeing product handling from fishing vessels to mother ship and from mother ship to the truck
Overseeing the Distribution of DGs (ULP and Diesel) to cray vessels and record amounts
Engine room checks and maintenance
Watches during steams and training GBHs to be able to do so as well
