What You'll Do As a Financial Accountant, you will manage and support the delivery of end-to-end financial accounting services, including oversight of financial operations and the annual financial accounts process. This role is responsible for preparing Statutory Accounts and delivering periodic financial reporting to the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning, while contributing to internal and external audit processes in collaboration with the Senior Performance and Planning Advisor and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders such as VAGO. You will prepare high-quality papers and reports for the Audit and Risk Committee and Board, develop and maintain financial and accounting policies and internal control frameworks to strengthen governance and compliance, and provide expert financial advice and support across the organisation. You will also contribute accounting expertise to a range of organisational projects through financial analysis, data insights and risk assessment, maintain a working knowledge of relevant Federal and State legislation and reporting requirements, actively contribute to the Finance and Planning branch and broader organisation through effective cross-functional engagement, and ensure compliance with the Victorian Public Sector Code of Conduct and RBGV policies and procedures. What You'll Bring You'll bring relevant tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance or a related field, with CPA or CA membership mandatory, along with significant experience preparing financial statements in a comparable organisation, ideally within the public sector. You will demonstrate strong analytical capability, with the ability to interpret complex financial information and develop practical, compliant and innovative solutions that meet organisational and statutory requirements. With a strategic and improvement-focused mindset, you'll apply sound judgement and creative thinking to influence outcomes and enhance financial functions within your area of responsibility. You'll have a proven track record of collaborating with a diverse range of stakeholders, using well-developed influence, negotiation and engagement skills to gain buy-in and support for proposals and project outcomes. Highly regarded for your communication skills, you'll be able to write clearly, concisely and persuasively for senior audiences, including Board, Executive and government stakeholders, and communicate confidently in verbal settings.
