The Senior Workplace/Industrial Relations Consultant will support businesses / employers in the Electrotechnology, construction and trade industries through the development and maintenance of workplace relations framework including policy, procedure and process, compliance with legislation, Modern Award, Enterprise Agreements and other industrial requirements.
The Consultant works closely with unions, employers and employee representatives to create and deliver people practices that develop and maintain positive working relationships between an organisation and its people.
Key Responsibilities Applicants need to demonstrate their experience in delivering the following responsibilities:
• Provide first point of contact advice on the interpretation of awards and legislation and the application of industrial instruments, ensuring compliance with labour laws and regulations.
• Develop and prepare enterprise agreements (EAs) or collective contracts such as productivity-based wage adjustment procedures, workplace relations policies and programs.
This task includes renewal and termination of EAs.
• Undertake research (legislation, industrial instruments, industrial bulletins, media, and internet) to provide information on current industrial issues.
• Facilitate negotiations between employers and labour unions, prevent and resolve disputes and grievances and consult with unions.
• Provide advice or negotiation on terms and conditions of employment contracts.
• Provide proactive advice to business owners and employers to mitigate the risk of industrial disputes and industrial relations issues.
• Develop and implement policies and procedures related to workplace and industrial relations.
• Oversee performance management processes and conducting investigations into employee misconduct or violations of company policies.
• Representation Advocacy at the Fair Work Commission e.g. conciliations, including the preparation of responses, completing the necessary forms and guiding the business owner throughout the entire process.
• Underpayment calculations, including resolution.
• Assistance with Change Management including restructuring, redundancy, and transfer of business.
• Support the development of dispute resolution strategies and oversee the formation and conduct of workplace consultative committees and employee participation initiatives.
• Prepare and present reports and recommendations to business managers.
• Prepare documentation relating to employee relations.
• Assist senior management in advocacy and negotiations with unions and other external bodies.
• Support senior staff in the provision of Workplace Relations training for business owners, managers and employers, as required.
About You
• Excellent written and verbal communication
• Negotiation and problem-solving skills
• Knowledge in personnel and human resources, as well as government industrial regulations is essential.
• Experience in interpreting and working with Enterprise Agreements and Modern Awards is mandatory.
• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, law or a related field.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in industrial relations or a related field.
• Demonstrated Experience in preparing employer responses to Unfair Dismissal and other Fair Work Commission applications.
• Strong knowledge of labour laws and regulations: A Workplace Relations Consultant should be familiar with local, state, and federal labour laws and regulations.
• Experience regarding Superannuation valuable.
