About The Role Our IT Infrastructure team is seeking a
Senior Systems Engineer
with deep experience in
on‑premises Microsoft environments, particularly
Windows Server, Active Directory, and Exchange. This role is critical in supporting, maintaining, and uplifting our foundational infrastructure, as well as driving strategic initiatives and continuous improvement across a largely on‑prem environment.
While cloud exposure exists, our environment is still maturing— this is not a cloud‑first role. The right candidate will be comfortable working in a business that is still years behind the industry in cloud adoption and will play a key role in modernising our systems over time.
Role Responsibilities On‑Prem & Hybrid Infrastructure (Primary Focus)
Manage, build, upgrade, and maintain on‑premises infrastructure systems—including Windows Server, Active Directory (full hierarchy), GPOs, identity, and messaging services.
Actively maintain and support
on‑prem or hybrid Exchange environments.
Perform deep‑dive Active Directory work beyond basic user and group administration.
Projects & BAU (Approx. 65% Projects / 35% BAU)
Collaborate with project teams to plan, design, and implement solutions across on‑prem and emerging cloud platforms.
Proactively monitor, operate, and support infrastructure systems, ensuring stability and performance.
Engage in incident management, root cause analysis, and preventative maintenance.
Technical Leadership & Governance
Produce and maintain knowledge bases, technical documentation, and operational resources.
Validate and remediate solution compliance in line with organisational and regulatory requirements.
Identify risks, issues, and dependencies and contribute to the design of secure, scalable infrastructure and platforms.
Enhance and administer tools used in technical delivery and operations, including SCM and CI/CD systems.
About You Technical Expertise
Extensive hands‑on experience with Microsoft on‑prem technologies, especially:
Active Directory (deep technical understanding of structure, hierarchy, replication, DNS integration, and troubleshooting).
Windows Server administration and infrastructure upgrades.
On‑prem or hybrid Exchange (actively supporting and maintaining).
Group Policy management beyond basic configuration.
Strong knowledge of networking fundamentals (DNS, DHCP, routing concepts).
Experience contributing to or designing end‑to‑end system solutions, particularly in hybrid environments.
Other Qualities
Comfortable in environments still on the journey to cloud adoption—happy to get hands‑on with traditional infrastructure.
Curious, motivated, and committed to lifelong learning.
Able to mentor others and work collaboratively across teams.
Practical, delivery‑focused, and experienced in what works operationally in complex environments.
Benefits
Career growth and development opportunities in a supportive and collaborative working environment
Access to discounts across all our affiliated brands, as well as other retail partnerships
Free annual flu vaccinations
Access to our Employee Assistance Program

Salary: A$120,000.00–A$140,000.00
