The Role
As an APS 5 Security Advisor within the Directorate of Policing & Security – Navy (DPSN), you will play a key role in strengthening the security posture of Navy’s current and future capabilities. The role blends forward looking security assurance for emerging platforms with the delivery of protective security compliance, audits, and advisory services across the Fleet.
You will be a member of the Security Operations Team supporting the delivery of policy?directed protective security activities. Your mission is to assure that Navy capability meets the required security standards in accordance with the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF) and the Defence Security Principles Framework (DSPF).
The APS 5 Security Advisor will conduct themselves with professionalism and will have the opportunity for a reasonable level of autonomy along with due accountability. They will exercise both initiative and judgement in the interpretation of policy and in the application of established APS Codes of Conduct.
About our Team
Based in Canberra, the Security Operations team examines the latest and emerging military capabilities across the maritime domain. The successful applicant will be based in HMAS Stirling, Rockingham, WA as part of a small team to play a vital role in ensuring that Navy’s future and current platforms, capabilities and sensitive technologies in WA are delivered or remain uncompromised with a superior level of security assurance.
Working to the Director of Policing and Security – Navy (DPS-N), the role is part of a team providing strategic level advice on policing and security matters. The Security Operations Team is a dynamic subset of DPS-N roles and responsibilities.
Our Ideal Candidate
We are looking for a committed, dynamic and innovative individual to join the DPS-N Security Operations Team. The APS 5 Security Advisor will exercise initiative and judgement in the interpretation and application of policy. They will provide detailed security advice to capability projects, Navy personnel and Commands; further, contribute to policy development.
To succeed in this role, applicants will be required to demonstrate:
* Experience working in a protective security and/or risk management environment.
* Knowledge of ASIO protective security guidelines
* Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply legislation, policy and procedures.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* The ability to influence and build relationships with a network of stakeholders.
* The ability to undertake and deliver security risk assessments.
* Demonstrated ability to work in a security workplace and to handle sensitive matters discreetly.
* The ability to resolve complex problems and exercise sound judgement
* Ability to operate independently.
Eligibility
Security Clearance:
Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at “Negative Vetting Level 2”.
