**Your new role**
As a media and communications officer, you will be responsible for:
- Developing and implementing effective media and communication strategies to support the departments objectives and priorities
- Producing high-quality content for a variety of traditional and digital platforms, including web content, internal newsletters, social media, press releases, speeches etc.
- Engaging with internal and external stakeholders, such as journalists, senior executives, staff and the public
- Managing media enquiries and issues, and providing timely and accurate advice and responses whilst mitigating risk
- Monitoring and evaluating the impact and effectiveness of media and communication activities
**What you'll need to succeed**
To be considered for this role, you will have:
- A degree in journalism, communications, public relations, or a related field
- Relevant senior level experience in media and communications, preferably in the public sector
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages to different audiences and channels
- Strong media relations skills, with the ability to pitch stories, respond to media enquiries, and manage issues
- Experience in using digital and social media tools, such as WordPress, Mailchimp, Twitter, Facebook, etc.
- A proactive and creative approach to problem-solving and innovation
- A valid DHS WWCC (Working with Children Check)
- You must be immediately available to commence for the duration of the contract
