Play Helper

HeartKids is seeking a Play Helper/Play Assistant to help children with additional needs while parents engage in MyTime group activities and discussions.

The role will help set up safe, engaging play environments, prepare play and activity materials, and assist in facilitating developmentally appropriate play-based activities under the direction of the group facilitator.

The position is very part time, with approximately 18 hours per school term (est. 2-3 hours across five days each term).

About the Role

The Play Helper role will include:

* Facilitating play activities for a small group of children.

* Providing support for children with additional needs while parents participate in MyTime group activities and discussions.

* Setting up an appropriate environment and the preparation of play materials and activities for children.

* Supporting the group facilitator with set-up, pack-up and parent/member engagement before children arrive.

* Communicating with parents or carers where appropriate about the needs of their children.

* Assisting to ensure a safe play environment and following venue safety and emergency procedures.

* Contributing to a team environment that promotes positivity, learning and development, safety, and welfare of employees, acknowledge differences and encourage creativity, innovation and honesty.

Qualifications and Requirements

* Experience working with children, including children with additional needs.

* Ability to relate well to children and their parents from different cultures, backgrounds and circumstances.

* National Police Clearance (within 12mths), Working With Children Check (valid 2yrs).

* Ability to work well as part of a team, willing to provide assistance and cooperation to other staff at all levels.

* Creativity and initiative.

* Ability to follow direction, work under general supervision and exercise sound judgement in the execution of the role.

* Sound interpersonal and communication skills will be essential, along with the ability to maintain confidentiality.
