About Avalo:
At Avalo, we’re reinventing crop development to build a climate-resilient, equitable, and sustainable future for agriculture. Our mission is to accelerate crop evolution using AI and evolutionary biology—cutting development time from decades to just a few years while dramatically reducing environmental impact. From low-input cotton to sugarcane, we work with nature’s complexity, not against it, to deliver high-performance crops without harmful externalities. Join us in transforming agriculture from the seed up.
About This Opportunity:
We’re launching a pioneering sugarcane program in partnership with Coca-Cola Europacific Partners (CCEP), and we’re seeking a Regional Coordinator to serve as Avalo’s local representative in Queensland.
This is a hands-on role at the intersection of fieldwork, relationship management, and strategic program coordination. You’ll be responsible for building trust across the sugarcane supply chain—working directly with growers, mills, productivity services, and industry associations. You’ll coordinate pilot projects, oversee data collection, and ensure plots are established and monitored according to Avalo’s protocols.
The role is ideal for someone who thrives on-the-ground, understands the nuances of sugarcane production systems, and can translate grower and industry insights into actionable strategies for Avalo’s global team. Over time, this position has the potential to evolve into full-time leadership of Avalo’s sugarcane operations across Australia.
What We’re Looking For:
- Be Avalo’s local representative in Queensland, strengthening partnerships with growers, mills, productivity services, and industry associations (e.g., Canegrowers, MAPS, SRA).
- Coordinate pilot activities with CCEP, including grower recruitment, plot establishment, data collection, and ongoing field monitoring.
- Oversee data quality—ensuring agronomic, environmental, and economic information is accurately captured and reported into Avalo’s AI-powered crop evaluation platform.
- Facilitate meetings, workshops, and field visits for Avalo executives, CCEP, and local stakeholders, ensuring smooth communication and alignment
- Monitor industry trends and stakeholder feedback, including sustainability initiatives (e.g., Smartcane BMP), grower economics, and policy developments.
- Support pilot execution by working with productivity services for trial establishment and data quality assurance.
- Report regularly to Avalo’s management on pilot progress, grower engagement, risks, and opportunities.
- Contribute to Avalo’s scaling strategy by identifying high-potential regions, growers, and industry collaborations.
Skills and Qualifications:
- 5+ years’ experience in the Australian sugarcane sector, with strong knowledge of growers, mills, productivity services, and associations.
- Experience in building trust and working directly with growers and regional associations.
- Hands-on project coordination skills, with accountability for deliverables.
- Robust understanding of sugarcane production systems (ratooning, irrigation, harvest logistics, costs).
- Ability to collect, manage, and interpret agronomic or sustainability data.
- Familiarity with sustainability frameworks such as Smartcane BMP, Bonsucro, or carbon-footprinting methodologies.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills, with comfort representing Avalo to stakeholders and partners.
- Flexibility to travel across Queensland (Bundaberg, Mackay, Burdekin, and beyond).
- A proactive, independent mindset and a passion for sustainable agriculture.
