Officer Waste Education - Fixed Term- 3 Years - Based in Gympie

What we are looking for:
Gympie Regional Council has a fulltime permanent position for a fixed term of 3 years initially as a Officer Waste Education. This role is responsible for contributing to the development, delivery, and facilitation of training and education programs focused on waste reduction, reuse, and resource recovery for a broad range of internal and external stakeholders. The position also leads the design and implementation of community education, communications, and behavior change initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable waste practices across the region.
* Tertiary qualification in a relevant field (e.g Waste Management, Environmental Science, Education, Sustainability etc.).
* Experience delivering education programs and developing supporting resources for a range of audiences.
* Proficiency in social media management, digital content creation, and design tools (e.g. Adobe Suite).
* Strong project management, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
* High-level written, research, and administrative capabilities, including report and grant writing.
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively with strong interpersonal skills.
* Queensland ‘C’ Class driver’s licence that is current and maintained.
* Blue Card (or ability to obtain).
* Develop and deliver strategic programs, partnerships, policies and initiatives that support the transition to a circular economy and Council’s waste and resource recovery objectives.
* Lead the development and implementation of waste education, marketing and communication plans, including campaigns addressing littering and illegal dumping.
* Design, coordinate and deliver training, education and engagement programs for schools, community groups, businesses, and internal staff, including site visits.
* Develop and implement communication strategies to convey regulatory, legislative and strategic messages to a range of stakeholders.
* Foster partnerships and engagement with community groups, local businesses, and external organisations to support behaviour change and circular economy practices.
* Provide high-quality customer service and expert advice to the public and internal stakeholders on waste, recycling, and resource recovery.
* Create and manage engaging content across digital platforms, including Council’s website and social media, to support education and outreach objectives.
* Represent Council in external forums, committees and working groups relevant to waste education and resource recovery.
* Collaborate with internal departments to ensure coordinated and strategic delivery of waste-related initiatives.
* Prepare accurate reports, correspondence and other documentation in line with Council standards and timeframes.
