The AME ("Asia and Middle East") Chief Data & Analytics Office ("CDAO") is an elevated and expanded function managing all data and analytics related matters for AME, consistently and similarly to the other CDAO construct in the UK, IWPB, CIB/HCIB, and Group Infrastructure approved by HSBC Board. The function is accountable to deliver the refreshed HSBC Data Strategy into AME, enabling business growth and reducing data risk for the Hong Kong business and AME entities.
Role Purpose
We are seeking a highly accomplished director to serve as our CDAO for AME International Markets, reporting directly to the AME Chief Data & Analytics Officer. This critical leadership role focuses on overseeing all data and analytics matters on AME international markets, and will support Business and COOs in these markets to drive their market level data agenda, enabling business growth and reducing data risks. You will work with key SME teams at AME region and market level to understand stakeholder demands, advocate for the HSBC Data Strategy, acting as the SME for data and analytics related matters, mobilize teams for delivery, and cultivating a strong data culture.
Key Responsibilities
Stakeholder Management and Advocacy
* Establish close relationship with business stakeholders in AME International Markets, acting as their trusted focal point for data and analytics matters
* Establish an effective mechanism to engage business stakeholders in AME International Markets, and bring them into a single data strategy story with strong advocacy and storytelling skills
* Develop a stakeholder map to understand and identify consistent or conflicting expectations, and develop management options for executive to make informed and collective decisions with trade-offs in mind
* Develop necessary materials and advocate for HSBC Data Strategy, and address key business stakeholder expectations including delivery roadmap, metrics, cost (investment and recharges) and benefits.
Oversight of data and analytics matters for AME International Markets
* Establish an effective mechanism for AME International Markets to oversee relevant data and analytics matters, covering key data related regulatory expectations and business growth opportunities
* Maintain a clear business story on how the HSBC Data Strategy will address demand for AME International Markets, and be the focal point to triage business demand into use-cases for AME for prioritization
* Identify collaborative synergies within AME international markets, and across AME priority markets, to bring pragmatic value to business teams across AME international markets
* Oversee key development trends for data, and be act as trusted advisory SME for local business and COOs
Delivery Governance, Control, and Reporting
* Represent AME International Markets for key data and analytics matters and engage the right business and technology stakeholders from delivery governance, control and reporting perspective.
* Outline an effective governance mechanism for AME International Markets, leveraging existing AME level governance cadence e.g. AME Data Executive Council, AME International Markets OpCo
* Oversee all data control matters, and work with AME Data Management and Controls function to address data risk in a risk-based manner with funding prioritization in mind.
* Maintain a clear view of how the global HSBC Data Strategy Investment (c.$150m globally) and respective regional budge (c.$20m regionally) will land into AME International Markets, and contribute to reporting materials as required by AME International Markets COO and AME CDAO.
Team Leadership and Resource Management
* Establish an effective mechanism to manage HK Delivery across AMH/HASE Business and Technology
* Provide direct leadership, mentorship, and governance to a team of senior program and project managers, instilling a culture of execution excellence and continuous improvement.
* Develop an effective relationship with key vendors and mobilize resources augmentation for delivery
* Cultivate the right HSBC leadership culture, and develop effective ways of working for the team
Qualifications & Requirements
Essential Experience
* Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Engineering, IT, or a related field; Master's degree or equivalent experience preferred.
* 10+ years of experience in data governance, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role. Exposure to AME International markets with strong stakeholder relationship with COOs is a big plus.
* Proven track records to govern data and analytics matters on behalf of senior executive to articulate, manage, and escalate matters in a timely and effective manner with minimal supervision and guidance
* Demonstrated knowledge of data trends in AME International Markets, in HSBC business context
* Solid knowledge of data management practices, with active industry knowledge across key data domains such as data risk, data commercialization, data platforms, and data management trends
* Strong understanding on HSBC's Value Stream construct and its evolving changes, with relevant expertise to manage investment discussions, delivery roadmap and metrics
* Strong literacy and understanding on the refreshed HSBC Data Strategy and its Execution Roadmap, across key technology components (Reference Data, Data Fabric, Control Automation), and business outcomes (e.g. Non-Resident Chinese growth for Hong Kong business).
