The Head Chef will be responsible for managing all aspects of the kitchen operations, ensuring high standards of food quality, consistency, and customer satisfaction. This is a hands-on role that requires creativity, leadership, and a passion for delivering excellent homemade-style food.
Key Responsibilities:
* Menu Planning and Development:
Create and develop seasonal menus, introducing new dishes and special offerings to cater to local preferences and the needs of travellers (e.g., curries, pizzas, pastas, and comfort food). You must be able to cook both Indian (e.g., curries, rice, tandoori dishes) and English dishes (e.g., traditional breakfasts, roasts, pies, fish and chips). There is potential for expanding food offerings to accommodate more diverse cuisines, especially popular takeaway options for truck drivers and travellers.
Food Preparation and Cooking:
Prepare high-quality meals with a focus on fresh, homemade dishes. Ensure that all dishes are consistently prepared and meet the established standards for presentation, quality, and taste. A strong ability to cook both Indian and English cuisine is essential to meet customer demand and drive growth.
Kitchen Management:
Oversee the daily kitchen operations, including food preparation, portion control, inventory management, and food safety practices. Ensure that the kitchen is clean, organized, and compliant with health and safety regulations.
Team Leadership:
Lead and supervise kitchen staff. Provide training and mentorship to junior kitchen staff, fostering a collaborative and positive working environment. Manage staff schedules and ensure smooth kitchen operations, especially during peak hours.
Customer Engagement:
Engage with customers to understand their preferences and gather feedback. Use this feedback to continuously improve the menu offerings and dining experience. Cater to the growing demand for truck drivers' preferences, particularly Indian cuisine, as well as local favorites, including English comfort food.
Cost Control:
Manage food costs by monitoring inventory, minimizing waste, and ensuring efficient portion control. Work with suppliers to source fresh, high-quality ingredients at competitive prices.
Service Expansion:
Explore opportunities to expand food offerings, such as introducing more takeaway options, meal kits, or catering services for local events.
