Location: Wellington

Wellington Aboriginal Corporation Health Service (WACHS) is and Aboriginal community-controlled health organisation that aims to empower Aboriginal people to take control of their individual, family, and community health and wellbeing needs through our clinical and community programs.

Our main services are in Wellington, Dubbo, Moree, Western Sydney, Penrith, Nepean, and Blue Mountains, and we provide outreach services to other towns and communities through our regional programs.

About Role:

The Post Custodial Support Trainee supports Aboriginal people transitioning from custody by assisting with culturally safe, trauma-informed case management and reintegration support. Working under supervision, the trainee learns to provide practical assistance, coordinate services, and strengthen connection to community and wellbeing pathways.

Key responsibilities but not limited to:

* Assist with intake and assessments under supervision
* Shadow senior workers and observe case management planning and service delivery
* Support transport, appointment reminders, and client follow-ups (as approved)
* Participate in developing culturally responsive care and wellbeing plans
* Observe and contribute to group programs, community activities and events
* Support administration, data entry, and reporting tasks
* Attend regular supervision, mentorship, and team training sessions
* Work respectfully and professionally with local services, families and stakeholders

The ideal applicant will have:

* Enrolled in or working towards a Tertiary Qualification certificate III or cetificate IV in AOD
* Willingness to learn about the impact of drug and alcohol use in Aboriginal communities, and sensitivity to Aboriginal culture and history
* Interest or experience in community services, AOD, mental health or justice-related fields
* Ability to provide support under supervision in a culturally safe and respectful way
* Good communication skills and willingness to work as part of a team
* Basic computer skills and willingness to use client software systems
* Commitment to learning case management, intake, reporting and administrative tasks

Essential Criteria:

* A Certificate of Aboriginality.
* A Current National Police Check.
* A Current Working With Children Check NSW.
* Current Driver’s License that allows you to drive in Australia.
* COVID-19 Vaccination and Booster information (or evidence of a valid medical exemption).
* pplicant to take on a cert III or cert IV in AOD.
