Company Overview The Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) is a national health organisation that provides essential 24-hour medical care and emergency services to people living in rural and remote parts of Australia. Known globally as one of the largest aeromedical services and a pioneer in its field, RFDS uses advanced aviation, medical, and communication technologies along with a widespread fleet to reach across 7.69 million square kilometers of Australia, specifically targeting areas where regular health services are scarce. Role Overview Reporting to the Chief Executive, the Executive General Manager, Primary Health Care, Nursing and Midwifery provides executive leadership across primary health, nursing, midwifery and allied health services, including oral health, mental health and community-based multidisciplinary programs. As a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, this role is the most senior professional authority for nursing and midwifery practice and holds accountability for clinical governance, safety, quality, and accreditation across all RFDS SA/NT clinical service streams, excluding medical professional governance. The position can be based in Adelaide, Darwin, Alice Springs or Port Augusta with remote travel as required. Key responsibilities include :- Providing executive leadership as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, contributing to organisation-wide strategy, planning, transformation and performance; Leading the strategic direction, governance, and delivery of RFDS SA/NT’s primary health care portfolio and the Integrated Primary Health Education Centre; Acting as the recognised executive authority for nursing and midwifery practice, with accountability for professional standards, workforce capability, clinical education and development; Establishing and maintaining robust clinical governance, safety, quality and accreditation frameworks across all primary health services, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and regulatory requirements; Overseeing funded primary health care programs, including financial management, contractual compliance, KPI performance, evaluation and reporting; Driving innovation, funding strategy, advocacy and service evaluation to support sustainable models of care and improved access for rural and remote communities; Building and sustaining strong partnerships with Aboriginal community-controlled organisations, government agencies, health networks, universities and key stakeholders to support integrated and culturally responsive care. Skills, Knowledge, and Experience The successful candidate will bring senior executive leadership experience within health care or complex service delivery environments, with demonstrated expertise in clinical governance, safety, quality systems, accreditation and risk management. Possessing a strong understanding of rural and remote health contexts, population health, culturally safe practice and Aboriginal health needs, along with proven capability in leading large, geographically dispersed teams and delivering change in complex organisations is essential. Registrations, or eligibility for registration, as a Nurse with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia, supported by relevant postgraduate qualifications are essential.
