You'll support every stage of our hot air ballooning ground operations — from setup and pack down to driving 4WD support vehicles and assisting passengers.
This is a people-facing role. You'll liaise with passengers and local landowners, so strong communication and a professional attitude are essential. Local knowledge of the Ipswich region and its roads is advantageous, helping ensure smooth operations.
This is not your average driving job — it's part of a professional aviation tourism operation delivering unforgettable hot air balloon flights over the Greater Brisbane region – Ipswich, Scenic Rim & Somerset regions.
The role requires driving company 4WD vehicles (manual) with long trailers and/or passengers on board as well as assisting with all ground operations of the balloons (inflation/ launch, deflation/ landing & retrieval/ chase).
Role & Attributes Requirements:
· Be people orientated and enjoy working outdoors
· Be an early morning person - Shifts are early morning, (1 hour before sunrise ie 4 – 6 am varying throughout the year), 3 to 4 hours per flight/ shift.
· Be flexible - hours and number of days per week will vary subject to our operational requirements. Ballooning is a weather dependent activity.
· Be able to handle physical activity – assist with inflation & deflation/ set up & pack up of balloon.
· Follow & directions - from the commercial pilot - ability to follow instruction & navigational directions.
· Retrieve the balloon - track & follow the balloon from launch to landing in company 4WD & ballooning rig.
· Clean & current license required, ability & experience in driving a manual 4WD & large trailer is a necessity. Operate vehicles safely & within the road rules; be able to drive on dirt roads.
· Maintain radio communication during flight - UHF radio knowledge an advantage.
· Staff must be able to pass random drug and alcohol testing – Floating Images operates under a CASA approved drug and alcohol management plan.
· Follow Company Crew Operations Procedures Manual; Fatigue Management, Drug & Alcohol Management compliance required throughout employment.
· Crew must be reliable & responsible; flexible & positive attitude, mature and methodical in nature, able to work independently as well as in a team.
· Possess communication/ people skills - polite with passengers, landowners, public & staff.
· Knowledge of the Ipswich, Scenic Rim & Somerset region's main roads is also a strong advantage.
· As ballooning is a soft adventure, leisure and tourism activity – team members must be available early mornings: during weekdays, weekends, public holidays & seasonal holiday periods.
Role specific, in-field training and support will be provided to the person/s appointed.
Our office is based in Karalee, we meet our passengers in Ipswich; flight zone is mostly Greater Brisbane western region – Ipswich, Scenic Rim & Somerset countryside; early morning pre-sunrise meeting in Ipswich.

Pay: $30.00 – $40.00 per hour
