Yandama Station is a substantial, family-owned pastoral enterprise spanning 150,000 acres in the remote Upper Western NSW region near Milparinka, the property has been continuously operated by the same family for 80 years. The business manages approximately 8,000 Merino sheep and 1,000 head of agistment beef cattle. The employer offers a truly unique working arrangement: the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work closely with the knowledgeable, on-site owner. As the owner concentrates on the theoretical and administrative side of the business, this position offers unparalleled autonomy to run the place and manage all the essential practical skills and day-to-day operations. You will be entrusted with a comprehensive range of general pastoral station duties at Yandama Station, requiring proven experience across Merino sheep, cattle, and goats. Key responsibilities are heavily focused on maintenance and infrastructure, including fencing and general property upkeep. Specific technical skills required involve vehicle maintenance, mechanics, welding (both mig and arc), and competent motorbike riding (2 and 4 wheel). You will also be responsible for managing and maintaining the water infrastructure, which includes solar pumps, troughs, and tanks, as well as conducting routine building maintenance and water checks. While you will primarily work autonomously, major stock work, such as mustering, is completed as a coordinated team effort. Crucially, you must be highly capable of working autonomously, demonstrating both initiative and independence with minimal instruction. Essential skills include possessing a manual car license, proficiency in strong fencing techniques, and excellent stock handling capabilities. We are looking for someone with a positive attitude who is polite, tidy, and takes genuine pride in their appearance and quality of work. Please note that while working dogs are not required for the role, pig dogs are strictly not permitted. A gun license is considered beneficial but is not an essential requirement.
