Primary objective
Support the development of the NT pastoral industry by taking responsibility for rangeland research activities that build
knowledge of sustainable grazing and land management practices and encourage adoption of research outcomes by industry.
Key duties and responsibilities
In keeping with DAF’s corporate values …
1. Take responsibility for and assist with the day-to-day management of specific rangeland research projects.
2. Undertake data collection, summary, and analysis.
3. Prepare written and oral reports to DAF, industry, and funding bodies
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Degree in agricultural, rangeland, resource, or environmental science from a recognised tertiary institution.
2. Considerable computer experience including a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
3. Ability to effectively communicate with cattle producers, technical staff, and researchers.
4. Experience in pasture sampling methodology and pasture species identification particularly in tropical rangelands.
5. Ability to carry out extensive periods of fieldwork in remote areas.
6. Ability to work effectively and unsupervised as a team member, demonstrating initiative and independence, and showing
good organisational and time management skills.
7. Demonstrated ability to maintain accuracy and scientific rigor in field trials.
8. Ability to interact effectively with people of diverse cultures.
9. Current manual driver’s license, 4WD and ATV operation experience.
Desirable
1. Qualification or experience in statistical analysis including use of statistics software.
2. Experience in the use and application of GRASP pasture models
