Level 3 Systems Engineer and Robotics Specialist
to support our work with the
Australian Army's Land Network Integration Centre (LNIC)

About the Role
As the
Design Team Systems Engineer and Robotics Specialist
, you'll be embedded within the
Land Capability Executive
under Army Headquarters. You'll support the Army's push toward a
digitally integrated force
, where automation, AI, and modern systems play a critical role in transforming how Army campaigns alongside allies in an evolving strategic environment.
Your work will directly support the
Digital Design Modelling and Standards Management team
—the driving force behind system-level modelling, integration, and the development of Defence standards.
Your Key Responsibilities
Digital Design & Modelling
* Develop and refine
system-level digital models
using SYSML tools.
* Build and maintain a
model library
representing the "Force-in-Being" to inform future capability design.
* Apply
automation and AI
to support systems integration modelling and accelerate planning cycles.
* Work with the LNIC team to ensure all modelling efforts meet
rigorous engineering standards
and are fit for operational purpose.
GRASA DEF(AUST) Standard Leadership
* Lead and manage the development of the
GRASA DEF(AUST) Standard
, applicable to uncrewed land, air, and maritime platforms.
* Provide
technical integration leadership
across technologies including:
* Optionally crewed combat/support vehicles
* Remotely operated/autonomous systems
* Human-machine teaming technologies
* Remote sensors and autonomous weapon systems
* Act as
Technical Lead
, synthesizing complex or opposing technical inputs into coherent, evidence-based recommendations.
Standards Development & Management
* Develop, uplift, and maintain
DEF(AUST) GxA standards
that define interface requirements across platforms.
* Align digital and physical design standards to ensure systems are
integrated, adaptable, interoperable, and affordable
.
* Collaborate with the
Land Integration Board
to guide strategic standards policy development.
Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration
* Work under the guidance of the SO2 LCS Design and in close partnership with:
* Standards & Modelling Leads
* Defence Capability Managers
* CASG System Program Offices (SPOs)
* Defence Industry and international coalition partners
* Provide
technical reports, briefings
, and advice on risks and issues to support ongoing capability development.
* Collaborate across other LNIC workframes to ensure holistic integration of digital design into broader Army initiatives.
Governance & Reporting
* Exercise delegated
technical authority
on behalf of the LNIC Chief / Principal Engineer.
* Contribute to progress reporting and technical assurance across LNIC programs.
* Ensure compliance with Defence policies, modelling frameworks, and integration processes.
Ideal Candidate Profile
To thrive in this role, you'll bring the following:
Experience & Qualifications
* Extensive engineering background in
systems engineering
,
robotics
, or
digital integration
, ideally within Defence or complex technical environments.
* Expertise in
modelling complex systems
, preferably with SYSML or similar MBSE tools.
* Familiarity with
Defence technical standards
, particularly DEF(AUST) standards.
* Understanding of
robotic/autonomous systems
, including AI integration and human-machine teaming.
Security Clearance
* Must hold a
minimum NV1
AGSVA security clearance at contract commencement.
* Willingness to undergo upgrade to
NV2
, if required.
Collaboration & Communication Skills
* Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management abilities.
* Able to distil complex engineering issues into actionable insights and solutions.
* Comfortable presenting to Defence leadership and technical working groups.

WFH/Flexibility:
After an initial probationary period, remote work may be considered on a case-by-case basis. However, you must be available to attend
monthly site meetings in Canberra
(minimum 3 business days per visit, at your own company's cost).
Travel Requirements:
* Occasional
interstate travel
for working groups, trials, and project reviews.
* International travel
may be required to support coalition engagements.
* All travel costs covered by Defence in line with DSS Deed (Clause
