We're seeking a skilled News Editor to join our Editorial team in Melbourne.
Job Summary
This is a challenging opportunity for an experienced journalist to lead news content development and execution. The ideal candidate will have a strong track record of editing national news, preferably digitally.
The successful candidate will work closely with the newsdesk team to plan, edit, and commission news stories that showcase Guardian Australia's commitment to independent journalism.
About the Role
* Plan, edit, and commission news stories that meet the highest standards of quality and accuracy.
* Work collaboratively with the newsdesk team to develop and execute editorial plans.
* Edit copy, check headlines, and ensure all legal issues are resolved prior to publication.
* Manage a small team of reporters, providing guidance, feedback, and support to help them grow professionally.
* Monitor news sources, such as wire services, news websites, social media, and broadcast media, to stay up-to-date on the latest developments and trends.
Requirements
* A minimum of 6-7 years' experience editing national news, preferably digitally.
* Excellent knowledge of national and Victorian news, with a strong understanding of NSW and Queensland state issues.
* Proven ability to manage a team and develop their skills and careers.
* A deep understanding of diversity and inclusion issues.
* Strong knowledge of media law and regulatory requirements.
