Offer description

Greyhound Racing SA is the controlling body for greyhound racing in South Australia. From our headquarters at Angle Park, we regulate, promote, and support a dynamic industry of approximately 700 licensed participants across five racetracks statewide. We are committed to best-practice animal welfare, integrity, transparency, and community engagement.

About the Role

GRSA is seeking a highly experienced and values-driven Chief Veterinary Advisor to lead greyhound welfare oversight and support integrity functions across South Australia.

Reporting to the General Manager – Integrity & Welfare, this senior leadership role provides expert veterinary advice, oversees the On-Track Veterinarian workforce, supports welfare and integrity investigations, and drives continual improvement across welfare, compliance, and operational practice.

This part-time senior position offers a unique blend of strategic influence and flexible working arrangements. GRSA is seeking a candidate who can initially commit to a higher number of days per week to progress key priorities arising from the Ashton Report. Once these foundational deliverables are met, the role will transition to an ongoing commitment of 1–2 days per week.

Ideal for a senior veterinarian seeking meaningful leadership impact without a full-time workload.

Your professional judgement will directly influence:
* Greyhound welfare outcomes
* Racing integrity and participant confidence
* Stakeholder, regulatory and government relationships
Key Responsibilities

Provide high-level veterinary, welfare and clinical advice to GRSA leadership.

Lead and coordinate the On-Track Veterinarian team, including rosters, guidance and performance.

Support integrity and welfare investigations, including providing veterinary evidence.

Identify emerging welfare risks and lead mitigation strategies.

Develop and deliver welfare-related education for staff and industry participants.

Produce evidence-based reports, literature reviews and position papers.

Review, develop and enhance welfare-related rules, standards and policies.

Build and maintain strong internal and external stakeholder relationships.

About You

Degree in Veterinary Science (or equivalent) with 5+ years' clinical experience.

Eligible for registration with the Veterinary Surgeons Board of South Australia.

Strong understanding of animal welfare legislation, standards and best practice.

High integrity, sound judgement and demonstrated professional independence.

Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and collaborate at all levels.

Strong organisational ability and capacity to manage competing priorities.

Ability to travel intrastate/interstate as required.

Knowledge of greyhound racing is desirable, but not essential.

Available for increased workload initially, followed by a reduced ongoing schedule.

Why Join GRSA?

Play a pivotal role in shaping welfare outcomes across a major South Australian sport.

Influence industry integrity, compliance and policy at a strategic level.

Join an organisation committed to transparency, welfare and progressive reform.

Work with a passionate, multidisciplinary team dedicated to meaningful impact.
