The Australian Ballet delivers a range of education programs each year including in-schools, partnership, and public programs. Dance Educators will work in a range of venues, schools, and community spaces with young people with varied dance experience and with those that face social, geographical, and financial challenges.
Role Highlights
- Deliver impactful dance experiences - Lead and support engaging workshops, performances, and adapted ballets for students and community audiences of all ages and abilities.
- Contribute creatively and physically to productions - Participate in daily warm-ups, rehearsals, choreography, and ballet partnering, with opportunities to perform roles such as the White Rabbit or Knave in Wonderland.
- Be part of a energetic touring team - Help bring programs to life across schools and communities, contributing to touring logistics, including travel, navigation, and props setup, while representing the company with professionalism and enthusiasm.
What you'll be doing:
- Work cooperatively within a small team to plan and deliver workshops and performances in school and community venues, for students of varying ages and ability
- Perform adapted ballets in schools and community venues
- Attend daily warm-ups, maintain gym program and participate in teaching, choreography, and performance rehearsals.
- Contribute to touring requirements, such as set up and pack down of props, driving or assisting with navigation to and from programs.
- We are currently looking for a dancer with experience in ballet partnering, including lifting, such as in the roles of the White Rabbit and Knave in Paul Knobloch's Wonderland. However, all interested dancers are welcome to submit an application as other roles may become available.
What experience you'll need:
- Tertiary or professional level of dance training with a high level of dance technique
- Experience or strong interest in dance education
- Willingness to work within a community engagement approach to dance (a different approach than elite dance training)
- Strong team member with excellent communication skills
- Excellent organisational skills
- Experience or willingness to tour, including to regional remote towns
- Satisfactory Police Records check
- Working with Children certification
- Full Driving license (preferred but not essential)
