The Opportunity
We are seeking a highly motivated person to join our Data Engineering Team as part of the Malaria Atlas Project (MAP). This position offers an exciting opportunity to join a world-class research team focused on combating malaria globally.

Working closely with MAP researchers and the wider Data Engineering Team, you will develop and support cutting-edge software for geospatial modelling across a wide range of epidemiological settings. As a technical specialist, you will be responsible for supporting coherent development policy and procedures within the team, such as source control and release management, standards and code reviews, code optimisation and performance tuning and reporting, and development technologies and technical infrastructure.

This is a desk-based role based in Perth, but with flexible work arrangements, offering a collaborative and innovative environment where your contributions will make a real difference.

In this role, your duties will include but are not limited to:

* Develop and maintain software applications for geospatial data processing, analysis, and visualization.
* Design and implement scalable, efficient solutions to support large-scale geospatial analysis.
* Collaborate with data scientists to optimize and implement complex statistical models, spatial algorithms, and machine learning workflows.
* Design intuitive, user-friendly interfaces for accessing and visualizing spatial health data.
* Document code, develop best practices, and ensure the reusability and scalability of software products.
* Stay updated with advancements in geospatial technologies and health data science, contributing innovative ideas to the team's research and development efforts.

Located within Perth Children's Hospital in Nedlands, this is a full-time role that will be offered for an initial 2-year period.

About You
The successful applicant will hold a degree in a computing or IT related subject or hold relevant training/experience. You will also bring the following:

* Experience creating and maintaining geospatial software solutions to support academic research into the epidemiology of a vector-transmitted disease such as malaria.
* Advanced skills in bespoke application development using object-oriented programming languages such as Java or C# with the ability to lead designing and creating new APIs, user interfaces, system integrations and reports.
* The ability to use numerical analysis methods to develop algorithms and perform computations over large datasets.
* Experience developing web applications using Angular and/or React web frameworks.
* Experience using open-source technologies for geomatics including GeoServer, PostGIS, Geotools, QGIS.
* Experience supporting, customising and extending full-stack applications.
* Experience using GitLab or GitHub.
