Gain knowledge and experience in transmission network development.
Work with world-class power engineers.
A major greenfield EHV transmission network project.
Job Description
About West Recruitment Pty Ltd’s client, a consortium of leading energy companies:
This is a major greenfield EHV transmission network project, the first in a generation. It will integrate 7 GW of renewable projects to a reliable purpose-built network for the benefit of NSW.
Main Responsibilities:
• Are you looking to break away from repetitive connection work?
• Do you want to develop control methods for the power system?
• Have you been frustrated with current processes and yearn to solve complex problems?
A dedicated team of power engineers has been established to solve the integration of multiple renewable energy generators to the planned REZ network, becoming a new Network Service Provider.
Combining their skills, knowledge, and power engineering control methods, they are creating a collaborative problem-solving culture, focused on gaining broader experience and improved engineering practice for the integration of renewable technologies.
As a greenfield network under design, this is your opportunity to gain knowledge and experience in transmission network development, integration of generator control systems across the full design, delivery, and operating life of this exciting project.
About The Role:
You will be working with a world-class team of power engineers on whole of system network models to assess the performance and control coordination between generators using power system analysis software and scripting.
You will work independently on problems but also collaboratively in the team. The focus is to efficiently solve whole of network control and deliver a project designed for the future support of NSW.
You will be engaged in undertaking generator performance assessments, control integration, network studies, and addressing future complex power system challenges for this planned system.
Key aspects of your role will include:
1. Integrating and assessing generator dynamic models in the network models using either PSS/E or PSCAD.
2. Using python scripts and prepared cases to conduct power system studies, analyse results, and contribute to the preparation of technical reports.
3. Identify and troubleshoot issues within network models and software.
4. Evaluate generator compliance with performance standards and provide recommendations for improvement.
5. Collaborate with internal teams to deliver high-quality analyses, feedback, and reports.
6. Develop and work on all phases from design, through commissioning to operation.
The role can be based in Sydney, Melbourne, or Brisbane, with a hybrid work environment offered.
About You:
1. Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or higher), majoring in power and control.
2. Circa 3+ years' experience of power system studies, application of generator controls, network planning, or connection studies.
3. Experience and competent in the use of PSS/E and PSCAD, or PowerFactory and Matlab.
4. Strong understanding of generator performance standards, compliance assessment, and evidentiary documents for registration.
5. Proficient in technical report writing and the ability to communicate and articulate complex technical concepts clearly.
6. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
