We are looking for a Senior Environmental Health Officer who can bring expertise, leadership, and a forward-thinking mindset to a role that blends technical excellence with real community impact.
About the Role
As a senior member of our Environmental Health team, you will play a key role in safeguarding and enhancing public health outcomes across our city. You will provide expert advice, lead quality assurance, mentor team members, and support the delivery of high quality regulatory and community focused services.
This is a role for someone who enjoys both hands on technical work and influencing broader strategy, with opportunities to contribute to leadership, continuous improvement, and organisational outcomes.
What you will be doing
* Provide specialist environmental health advice aligned with legislation and best practice
* Support and guide a team to deliver consistent, high quality outcomes
* Oversee investigations, compliance actions, and legal processes where required
* Coach and mentor team members to build capability and engagement
* Contribute to strategic planning, service improvements, and community education initiatives
* Build strong relationships across Council and with the community
* Support the delivery of safe systems of work and a strong WHS culture
What you will bring
* Degree in Environmental Health (or related field)
* Strong knowledge of South Australian public health and food safety legislation
* Demonstrated experience in environmental health within local government
* Excellent communication, investigation, and problem‐solving skills
* Ability to lead, influence, and support a high performing team
* A proactive mindset with a passion for continuous improvement
* Experience in wastewater management, leadership or coordination roles, and knowledge of corporate governance and strategic planning desirable but not essential
