The office of Ed Smelt MLA is seeking applications for an ongoing part-time Assistant Electorate Officer based at the Electorate Office in Nightcliff, NT.
The Assistant Electorate Officer plays a key role in supporting the Member to effectively represent and advocate for the Nightcliff Electorate. The position provides high-quality administrative, communications and project support, while helping to ensure strong engagement with constituents and the community.
This is a dynamic and hands-on role suited to a community-minded individual who is organised, proactive and a strong communicator. You will work closely with the Member to support local advocacy, respond to constituent issues and help deliver meaningful outcomes for the community.
Remuneration Package
$96,546 - $102,191 (including salary $87,769 - $92,901 + 10% after hours allowance, pro-rata).
Part time role is approximately 16 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities
* Coordinate meetings, events and community engagements with stakeholders and local residents.
* Support the development and delivery of local advocacy initiatives and projects.
* Prepare and manage communications, including social media content, newsletters and printed materials.
* Assist with the intake, liaison, tracking and resolution of constituent enquiries and issues.
* Provide high-level administrative and organisational support to the Member.
* Contribute to a responsive, professional and community-focused electorate office.
* Undertake other duties as reasonably directed by the Member.
Selection criteria
Essential
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, accurate and timely content.
* Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships and work effectively in a small team.
* Demonstrated organisational and project coordination skills, with attention to detail.
* Experience in digital communications, social media management, or content creation.
* Ability to work proactively, anticipate needs and show initiative in a fast-paced environment.
* High level of computer literacy, including Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel) or similar systems.
* A strong connection to, and understanding of, the Nightcliff electorate and our community.
* Ability to work out of hours.
Desirable
* Experience working in government, politics, or a community-focused organisation.

Prior to being formally offered a contract as an Assistant Electorate Officer for a Member of the Legislative Assembly, applicants will be required to submit criminal history and conflict of interest declaration forms, and an outside employment application form if relevant. Applicants who are offered employment will be subject to a criminal history check. A criminal history will not exclude an applicant from this position unless it is a relevant criminal history. A working with children clearance (Ochre Card) is also a requirement of the role.
