About AFAC & NAFC
AFAC is the national council for fire, land management, and emergency service authorities in Australia and New Zealand, representing 33 member organisations and over 290,000 personnel. AFAC's purpose is to support the sector in creating safer, more resilient communities through collaboration, innovation, and the development of national doctrine.
The National Aerial Firefighting Centre (NAFC) is a business unit of AFAC, providing national coordination and support for aerial firefighting. NAFC facilitates a fleet of specialised firefighting aircraft for use by state and territory agencies, driving knowledge and solutions that improve the effectiveness, safety, and efficiency of fire and emergency management.
About the Position
The Project Officer, NAFC, provides administration and communication support to initiatives that enhance members' emergency capabilities, primarily within NAFC and across the National Capability Directorate. You'll contribute to a high-performing team, supporting the safe, effective, and efficient delivery of aerial capability.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management & Administration
* Manage and update planning documents and systems (e.g., project plans, SharePoint sites, process maps, timelines, communication plans).
* Provide administrative and project support to the NAFC team and wider directorate.
* Collaborate with the AFAC Communications team to create and update internal/external materials (flyers, bulletins, website content).
* Escalate issues and recommendations to senior leadership as needed.
Sector Engagement
* Handle secretariat tasks for NAFC groups, including agenda preparation, meeting coordination, and record keeping.
* Maintain engagement with stakeholders and awareness of sector issues (e.g., aviation safety, regulation).
* Organise, participate in, or represent AFAC at relevant events.
Procurement & Contracts Support
* Support tender and contract processes during peak periods.
* Procure NAFC merchandise and clothing as required.
* Perform ad hoc data entry, reporting, and user testing on NAFC systems.
Communication & Teamwork
* Provide accurate, confidential, and timely customer service to stakeholders.
* Work effectively within a supportive team environment.
* Assist in a wide range of activities as required within a small team.
* Maintain a professional and trustworthy corporate image.
* Uphold a high level of probity and integrity, handling sensitive information appropriately.

About You
You are proactive, organised, and passionate about supporting emergency management. You thrive in a busy environment, balancing multiple responsibilities with professionalism and integrity.
Essential Skills & Experience
* Demonstrated experience in administrative support and project roles, with expertise in Office365 and SharePoint.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare briefing papers and reports.
* Initiative, analytical and critical thinking skills, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
* Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and learn new technologies and processes.
* Proven ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively.
* High level of integrity and confidentiality.
Desirable
* Understanding of the fire and emergency sector in Australia.
