Applicants suitable for the role but not offered the position for the current vacancy may be placed in a merit list or pool. If the applicant agrees, the results may be shared with other Australian Public Service (APS) agencies for filling similar roles. Applicants may be offered a future role without reapplying. A merit list or pool may be used for up to 18 months.
This merit list or pool may be used to fill other vacancies anywhere in Australia.

Position Overview
The Treasury is seeking an experienced senior executive with exceptional leadership and stakeholder engagement skills for the new position of Director-General, Housing.
About the Director-General, Housing – SES Band 3 Role:
Drawing on your proven experience as a senior executive, you will lead the Housing Group and deliver on critical priorities for the Government. You will also play an integral role on Treasury's Executive Board, contributing to the department's strategic direction.
You will possess excellent leadership skills—focusing on your people and Treasury's priorities—to deliver policy advice, program delivery, and services to Government.
You have strong stakeholder engagement capabilities and are driven to create sustained, productive relationships with industry, government organizations, and state and territory agencies. Through these engagements, you can identify issues and develop policies that improve outcomes for the Australian community. You will work closely with the Executive Team, the Minister for Housing, Minister for Homelessness, Minister for Cities, and other Treasury Ministers.
As the Director-General, Housing, you will have extensive professional or executive management experience and enjoy working in a multi-disciplinary, fast-paced, and diverse environment.
The key duties of the position include:
Desirable Qualifications / Experience
As an SES Band 3, you will have:
* The ability to lead and motivate a large team to provide timely, influential, and evidence-based policy advice and deliver on the Government's priorities
* Knowledge and understanding of Australia's economic environment
* A proven track record in leading large-scale, high-profile projects or reforms
* Experience negotiating and working with senior stakeholders from government, industry, and academia
* The ability to effectively brief senior stakeholders and Ministers, including on sensitive matters
* Sound governance skills, including risk management and innovative policy delivery approaches
* The ability to contribute to organizational goals and drive initiatives effectively
Tertiary qualifications in relevant fields such as economics, law, public policy, or related areas are desirable.
The position is based in Canberra.
