Due to internal promotion, we're looking for a Fire and Stewardship Manager to lead and manage fire preparedness, response, general land management (weeds, pests, public use of State forests) and external stakeholder engagement across 120,000 hectares of diverse (70,000ha of softwood plantation and remainder native forest) State forest in the Central West of New South Wales (location Bathurst, NSW).

About the role:
As the Fire and Stewardship Manager, you'll take charge of fire preparedness and response, ensuring rigorous fire protocols are in place and executed to the highest standards.
This is a leadership position with regional influence, reporting to Regional Manager and liaising with a wide array of stakeholders. The position has three direct reports and responsibility for up to 25 staff (including contracted services)
You'll also guide FCNSW's general land management obligations (vertebrate pest and weed management) which will require you to deal with a range of stakeholders from individuals to multinational corporations on issues including forest recreation, permitted activities (such as hunting, mining and mine exploration) and neighbour engagement ; this role is not just about the trees — it's about managing an entire landscape with purpose and integrity.
We would love you to have/be:
* Robust background in firefighting and fire management
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills — you're a people person who can work with everyone from field crew, local communities, and high level external and internal stakeholders. You will be comfortable being the face of and represent FCNSW in a range of external stakeholder situations where FCNSW operates across the Central West of NSW
* A strategic thinker with the ability to adapt in real-time while staying grounded in process and consistency
* Comfortable interpreting legislation, policy and guidelines and deploying that knowledge to diverse and unique situations in satisfaction of FCNSW's objectives
* Comfortable leading in a high-risk, high-responsibility role with critical safety outcomes
* Able to operate with a high degree of autonomy and accountability
