Title: Senior Automation Tester

This role is critical to maintaining a federal government organisation's test automation capability and ensuring quality assurance delivery across multiple key technology programs and projects.
The position supports the development, maintenance, and execution of automated test scripts and suites across critical applications and ensures consistent regression coverage for major programs, monthly releases, and security patch cycles under the direction of the Automation Test Lead.
This role is fundamental to delivering stable, frequent, and high-quality ICT releases.
The role demands a deep understanding of uplifting and operating a mature Test Automation platform within a large, complex environment, while maintaining alignment with organisational testing standards. This includes integration with a diverse suite of applications developed in various programming languages and ensuring consistent and logical test approaches across a rapidly evolving technology landscape.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
• Support and maintain the overall test automation strategy, organisational testing standards, and best practices.
• Proactively support DevOps teams, delivery leads, architects, and developers to embed automation into CI/CD pipelines.
• Establish and track quality metrics, test coverage, and automation ROI.
• Analyse complex requirements and translate them into robust automated test scenarios.
• Conduct root cause analysis, defect triage, and troubleshooting.
• Support manual testing activities as required.
• Manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes.
• Provide mentoring and technical guidance.
• Influence quality-driven decision-making within Agile teams.
• Work effectively with stakeholders to support high-quality delivery.
• Ensure compliance with security, performance, and regulatory requirements.
• Contribute to sprint planning, backlog refinement, and release readiness.
Technical Skills:
• Strong hands-on experience with TOSCA, Selenium, Cypress, Playwright or similar.
• Experience across UI, API, integration, and end-to-end testing.
• Ability to maintain scalable automation frameworks.
• Proficiency in Java, C#, Python, JavaScript or TypeScript.
• Strong experience with Git and branching strategies.

The team forms part of a broader ICT function comprising Data Analytics & AI/Automation, Testing, and DevOps.
The team delivers industry-standard ICT services within a large, complex environment and focuses on innovation through AI and automation while partnering closely with business stakeholders.
Essential criteria:
Applicants must provide a response to each criterion (up to 3,000 characters each).
1. Hands-on automation suite design and maintenance – 30%

Desirable criteria:
• Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience.
• Experience in large organisations and relevant certifications.
• Cloud platform experience.
