Onset Arts is looking for a Set Designer/CAD Designer to join our Brunswick based workshop. In this role, you will work closely with our Head Designer and CNC Manager, to support our team of highly creative people across all departments of the organisation. We're seeking someone who is enthusiastic and pro-active, with the ability to think creatively and work methodically and efficiently.
Established in 2004, Onset Arts is a custom set and prop construction workshop based in the Melbourne suburb of Brunswick. We service customers looking for bespoke design and construction solutions from across a variety of creative industries. Whether it be theatre sets, television props, public events, exhibitions or large-scale entertainment venues, we use our expertise to deliver end to end solutions for our clients.
Responsibilities:
* Create concept designs based on client briefs.
* Design development to production ready drawings/build plans for internal and external use
* Create and maintain design documentation to ensure that accurate and up to date information reaches all relevant departments in a timely manner.
* Support the management team with the ongoing improvement of systems and processes as well as the refinement of existing designs.
* Work within the management team to ensure that projects are completed to a high level of quality and within tight turnaround times and production schedules.
* Build a working relationship with all departments to ensure designs make their way as smoothly as possible from concept through to installation.
Skills and Experience:
* Qualification in Industrial Design, Interior Architecture, Production Design or similar.
* Advanced level Sketchup modelling essential.
* Advanced level experience in 3D CAD design software, preferably Rhino.
* Experience designing for construction.
* Ability to produce concepts and developed designs and communicate them clearly to clients and stakeholders.
* Creative problem solving and attention to detail to translate your work from screen to fabrication.
* Experience using the Adobe Creative Suite (particularly photoshop & Illustrator).
* Experience or understanding of digital fabrication techniques like CNC routing, 3D printing and laser cutting and how they fit into production.
* Experience working with/designing for a range of materials (Sheet materials, timber, steel, paint, fibreglass, etc)
* Organisation and ability to manage your time and work autonomously on multiple projects simultaneously.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
