The Queensland Virtual Academy (QVA) is seeking multiple innovative and future-focused Head of Departments (Curriculum) to help deliver equitable access to high-quality curriculum programs for students across Queensland.
About Queensland Virtual Academy
The QVA is a statewide, cohesive approach to increasing equity in student access to curriculum pathways, learning opportunities, and teaching expertise.
You will join an established and supportive team committed to high-quality virtual learning. As part of this collaborative state-wide team, you will plan, deliver, and refine teaching programs tailored to learner needs. You'll also work closely with classroom teachers, school leaders, and QVA colleagues to support student engagement, achievement, and success.
About The Role
The ideal applicant for the Head of Department – Curriculum role will be a strategic and innovative curriculum leader who demonstrates a deep commitment to the Department of Education's Equity and Excellence strategy. This leader will ensure that curriculum planning, assessment, and reporting are fully aligned with the K–12 Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Framework.
Upon negotiation, this position can be located anywhere in Queensland, offering state-wide flexibility.
This role provides instructional leadership across a broad range of curriculum areas, supporting state-wide access to high-quality learning opportunities regardless of subject area. The successful applicant will work across subject areas to lead curriculum, pedagogy, and assessment practices in a virtual context that meets the diverse needs of students.
With proven experience in leading curriculum delivery the applicant will demonstrate expertise in the Australian Curriculum and/or QCAA syllabuses, with the ability to translate these into high-quality virtual programs. They will have the capacity to lead and support schools accessing QVA services that includes live online lessons, on-demand resources, school-to-school partnerships, or targeted programs.
A key strength of the successful candidate will be their ability to lead collaborative, capability development across schools, fostering effective data use and evidence-informed instructional practices. They will lead with a clear instructional vision that delivers high-impact virtual teaching and learning services to Queensland.
Key Responsibilities
As the Head of Department (Curriculum), your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
* Lead relevant curriculum areas or whole school program in developing and providing quality learning outcomes for all students.
* embed socially just practices in daily school life.
* Set high standards for student and staff performance.
* Engage in lifelong learning and professional development.
* Build partnerships with students, parents, agencies, and community groups.
* Be future-oriented and strategic.
* Understand legislation and policies impacting on the school department, students and staff.
* Manage the human, financial, facilities and curriculum resources of the school program to achieve goals.
