Primary objective
Provide authoritative technical advice and oversight to ensure the Northern Territory Government (NTG) vehicles, plant and equipment
are acquired and maintained safely, compliantly and cost-effectively. Support reliable service delivery across government by ensuring
assets remain fit-for-purpose and meet all legislative and operational requirements.

Context statement
NT Fleet manages the light and heavy fleet for most NTG agencies. It oversees the purchase, lease, maintenance and disposal of vehicles
and equipment. Vehicles are leased at commercial rates, with a focus on safe, reliable and fit-for-purpose assets which deliver value for
money across their lifecycle.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide specialist technical advice on the acquisition, maintenance, safety and compliance requirements for NT Fleet vehicles, plant

and equipment, including interpreting legislation and Australian Design Rules, assessing technical specifications, and contributing
expertise to fleet replacement planning, procurement processes and whole-of-life asset evaluations.

2. Coordinate and manage scheduled maintenance, inspections and repair activities for all vehicles, plant and equipment, ensuring cost-
effectiveness, service quality and alignment with operational needs.

3. Oversee vehicle inspections and safety checks, including mechanical, electrical and elevated work platforms assessments, ensuring
compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, and safety standards.

4. Provide expert advice to internal teams, contractors, and stakeholders, translating technical information into clear actionable
recommendations and ensuring effective problem resolution.

5. Contribute to the development, review and improvement of NT Fleet maintenance policies, procedures and guidelines, ensuring
consistency with the NT Fleet Service Statement.

6. Monitor performance, identify risks and opportunities for improvement, and support continuous enhancement of maintenance and
inspection processes.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Sound knowledge of large fleet operations, including the provision of servicing schedules, routine maintenance, accident repair

assessments and insurance claim processes.
2. Knowledge of servicing requirements for light and heavy vehicles, including fitted optional equipment with an understanding of issues

affecting provision of services to geographically diverse locations.
3. Ability to analyse information from multiple sources, apply guidelines and use sound analytical and conceptual skills to form evidence-

based conclusions.
4. Knowledge of procurement frameworks and practices relating to acquisition, disposal and maintenance of large fleet assets.
5. Strong organisational and scheduling skills with the ability to manage priorities, monitor performance and adapt work plans where

required.
6. Strong communication and negotiation skills, including ability to prepare accurate technical reports and translate specialist technical

information into clear language.
7. Demonstrated work ethic and attitude which emulates DCDD values of commitment to service, innovation, ethical practice,

accountability, impartiality, diversity, and respect.
8. Current NT driver’s licence, HR class preferred.

Desirable
1. Tertiary qualification in business, mechanical engineering, or related field; trade qualification in automotive engine and mechanical

technology.
