The Legislation, Policy and Program Division in the Justice and Community Safety Directorate is seeking to fill a current vacancy on a permanent basis in its Criminal Law Branch and will establish a merit pool which will be used to fill vacancies across the Branch for the next 12 months.
The Criminal Law Branch of LPP develops and implements policy, law reform and legislation relating to the criminal justice system, including on matters relating to domestic and family violence, sexual assault, bail, sentencing, corrections, policing and firearms.
The Criminal Law Branch has a permanent vacancy, at the SOG B Director level, in the Criminal Courts Team. This team progresses law reform relating to bail and sentencing legislation and other legislation to support effective criminal justice processes.
The successful applicant will have responsibility for working on a range of challenging and technical legal policy issues, supported by a friendly and experienced leadership team. The work undertaken is relevant and current to the ACT and you are often rewarded with seeing your work take shape within the community.
The successful applicants will provide leadership, autonomously manage an extensive work program and prepare high quality reports, briefs, submissions and correspondence for Ministers. The successful applicant will develop and promote positive relationships with key stakeholders and support JACS Executive at high level meetings.
To be successful, the applicant will require excellent legal research and analytical skills; a detailed understanding of government processes; and strong stakeholder engagement, organisational, and collaboration skills.

Eligibility/Other Requirements:
* Relevant tertiary qualifications in law or a related field are highly desirable but not essential.

A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and maybe used to fill identical vacancies arising over the next 12 months. Please note, this workplace is designed for activity-based working (ABW). Under ABW arrangements, officers will not have a designated workstation/desk.
