Fixed Term role based at the Acacia Prison in Wooroloo
About the role
You will foster and promote a sense of well-being amongst the prisoner cohort by the provisions of a service which instils harmony, understanding, support and reduce the level of distress and incidents of self-harm amongst the Aboriginal population. This will be achieved through collaboration with Rehabilitation and Reintegration, to ensure that all Aboriginal inmates are aware of the opportunities they can perform and to undertake educational courses in self-development, skills acquisition, vocational education and training – including Aboriginal history and culture.
About You
As an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) person, you are passionate about producing better outcomes for ATSI prisoners, their families and communities. You have comprehensive knowledge of ATSI people customs and contemporary issues. You have a collaborative and influential approach, whilst supporting prisoner management and the successful transfer or reintegration into the community. You are passionate, driven, and demonstrate exceptional moral values in all that you do.
To be successful in this role, you will have;
· The highest levels of personal integrity and ethical behaviour
· A tertiary qualification in Social Work, Social Sciences and/ or relevant industry experience and/ or active member of the Aboriginal Community
· Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people involved in and affected by the correctional system
· Experience in service delivery in a human service industry
· Comprehensive knowledge of all equal opportunity and race relations legislation
· Sound knowledge of the delivery of social welfare service in an institution environment
This is a position of trust and responsibility and to support this we will conduct a thorough probity assessment, which includes a national police check as an essential selection component for this role.
