About The Opportunity
We are seeking to appoint a Technical Officer to support an extensive research program at the Australian Maritime College’s (AMC) hydrodynamics laboratory, a key capability in maritime engineering. The successful candidate will support the Cavitation Research Laboratory (CRL) team at the Centre for Maritime Engineering & Hydrodynamics (CMEH) to achieve its research and learning objectives. This position is funded by the Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG) Maritime Division and is based at the AMC campus in Newnham.
What You’ll Do
* Perform high-level numerically controlled programming/simulation and manufacturing using a 5-axis machine centre.
* Assess, analyze, repair, and replace deficiencies to improve complex equipment.
* Develop new equipment and components to specifications for research projects.
* Work independently with guidance from the Line Manager and CRL team.
What We’re Looking For
* Trade or professional qualifications (e.g., mechanical fitter, machinist, toolmaker) with over 5 years of relevant experience.
* Experience in CNC programming, simulation, and manufacturing methods.
* Ability to assemble complex precision equipment physically.
* Skills in diagnostics, fault finding, and problem-solving.
* Teamwork skills to meet targets and objectives.
* Experience with operation and maintenance of fluid systems.
* Ability to identify and minimize risks.
Qualifications And Licences
* Forklift license
* Confined Space training
* Working at Heights training
* First Aid and Advanced Resuscitation certificates
* Working with Vulnerable People registration
Salary details
Remuneration up to $113,029 (including 17% superannuation), with a base salary range of $89,091 to $96,606.
