The Role
WSP Australia is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with strong materials handling experience to join our established Mining team in Newcastle. This role will support the delivery of a diverse portfolio of mining and resources projects across design, studies, and execution phases.
You’ll work closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver practical, high‑quality engineering solutions across bulk materials handling systems, while building long‑term capability within WSP’s growing mining business in NSW.
Deliver mechanical design and engineering support for materials handling systems across mining projectsContribute to studies, concept designs, detailed design, and technical documentationDesign and review bulk materials handling equipment including conveyors, transfer stations, crushers, feeders, chutes, and stockyard systemsCoordinate with civil, electrical, and structural disciplines to deliver integrated design outcomesPrepare calculations, specifications, data sheets, and drawings in line with project and WSP standardsSupport project delivery by contributing to scope definition, schedules, and technical risk managementParticipate in design reviews, client meetings, and technical workshops
About You
Degree qualified Mechanical EngineerProven experience in bulk materials handling within mining or heavy industryExperience with conveyor systems and associated materials handling equipmentBackground in engineering consultancy or project‑based delivery preferredStrong understanding of Australian Standards and design complianceAbility to work effectively in multidisciplinary project teamsClear communication skills and confidence engaging with stakeholders
