Role Summary
The Commercial Manager is a full-time role based in Sydney and will work directly with the Maas Civil and Maas Plant Hire Leadership Team.
The Commercial Manager will oversee project work programs, ensuring the implementation of the commercial framework and procedures whilst monitoring performance against key performance indicators.
Key Responsibilities
Active participation in the senior management / leadership team of the Civil Construction & Hire segment.
Identify and implement opportunities for continuous improvement through collaboration across Maas Civil.
Oversee the development, implementation, and management of commercial strategies and contract management frameworks for the transition from procurement to delivery of the contract, ensuring alignment with the overall commercial management framework.
Participate in commercial and contract negotiations, ensuring arrangements deliver the expected levels of service, performance, and innovation.
Foster a culture based on good governance, commitment to excellence, and high professional ethics, promoting transparency, communication, and trust within the delivery team.
Provide ad hoc advice to the General Manager - Maas Civil and Managing Director on commercial issues.
Manage contract correspondence and analyze commercial issues related to the contract.
Prepare internal reports and briefing materials on commercial issues and claims.
Provide strategic, operational, and contract management advice to project teams and stakeholders.
Implement project contract management frameworks and dispute resolution procedures aligned with Maas policies and industry best practices.
Oversee project delivery and conduct post-implementation reviews for lessons learned.
Lead commercial negotiations and evaluate tenders, providing assurance on tender documentation.
Supervise and monitor the activities of specialist advisors involved in contract management.
Manage competing priorities effectively to ensure project completion and day-to-day task delivery.
Accountabilities
Provide commercial oversight, including project progress, variations, claims, disputes, risks, and opportunities.
Ensure contract management outcomes meet project and group objectives.
Conduct commercial activities in accordance with principles, risk allocations, and contract terms.
Follow Maas Group's policies and procedures for commercial management.
Deliver timely and accurate commercial reports.
Maintain accurate and confidential commercial information systems.
Uphold high standards of probity and ethical conduct within the team.
Manage project risks and claims effectively and oversee insurance requirements.
Education & Experience
Relevant tertiary qualifications in business, commerce, engineering, project management, law, or related fields.
Strong commercial acumen and analytical skills.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, suitable for all organizational levels.
Experience in procurement, contract management, and major project commercial management.
Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
Solid understanding of contract law and various procurement strategies.
Proven leadership and team motivation skills.
