Primary objective
Lead and manage the Barkly Business and Workforce Delivery team in providing a range of industry, business and workforce
services and advice to support business and regional economic growth. Identify opportunities and collaborate with stakeholders to
strengthen the capabilities and capacities of the Barkly region.

Context statement
The Department of Trade, Business and Asian Relations aims to shape a competitive environment that activates industry and
business, attracts investment and drives growth to sustain a vibrant Territory economy and lifestyle.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Guide, mentor and develop regional team members to effectively manage the work unit’s functions and deliver projects,

programs and services to support NT business, industry and workforce.
2. Develop and implement regionally specific business/operational plans to guide the delivery of services and achievement of

economic development outcomes for the region.
3. Drive strategic, collaborative and innovative thinking to broker solutions and opportunities for the region to resolve complex

issues while supporting government policy and initiatives.
4. Provide high quality evidence-based analysis, strategic advice, ministerial briefings and correspondence on issues and

opportunities that impact the region.
5. Build and manage collaborative partnerships, alliances and networks with internal and external stakeholders.
6. Actively participate in and lead forums and committees with government, industry, and other stakeholders to support the

achievement of regional economic development outcomes.
7. Identify and deliver relevant projects that strengthen the capability, competitiveness and resilience of the Barkly region.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Highly developed strategic management skills, with an ability to respond to changing situations and circumstances, set priorities,

meet deadlines, show professional judgement and deliver results through effective management, regional budgeting and
resources.

2. Proven leadership ability in supporting and leading a strong culture of teamwork and accountability and build individual and
organisational capability and responsiveness.

3. A high standard of integrity and professionalism in dealing with confidential information and a commitment to service excellence
and the achievement of tangible and measurable outcomes.

4. Highly developed written and oral communication skills to meet the requirements of a wide range of audiences to provide clear
and considered advice and influence and negotiate as required.

5. Demonstrated knowledge, skills and ability in project management including the ability to consult and interpret the economic,
political, social and commercial environment.

6. Proven ability to build and sustain strategic relationships with key stakeholders, interact effectively and work with people of
diverse cultures and backgrounds.

Desirable
1. Tertiary qualification in Business, Economics or related field.
