About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Horse Trainer to join our team. This full-time position is based in a remote yet rewarding environment, offering the opportunity to work with horses in both cattle station operations and tourism settings.
Key Responsibilities
· Develop and implement tailored training programs to improve horse performance, behavior, and adaptability.
· Break in young horses, ensuring safe acceptance of saddles, bridle, rider, and harness work.
· Prepare horses for cattle mustering and trail riding by refining their conditioning, stamina, and responsiveness.
· Conduct behavioral conditioning programs to desensitize horses to external stimuli, including livestock, machinery, vehicles, and groups of riders.
· Identify and correct behavioral issues, applying problem-solving strategies and natural horsemanship techniques.
· Train horses in advanced groundwork such as lunging, long reining, and obstacle desensitization to build solid foundations prior to ridden work.
· Implement structured rehabilitation programs for horses recovering from injuries, under veterinary guidance.
· Monitor and evaluate equine health and wellbeing, collaborating with veterinarians and applying treatment plans when required.
· Administer feeding and supplementation programs tailored to each horse's workload, age, and condition.
· Maintain accurate records of training, exercise, diet, injuries, treatments, and performance progress. Teach horsemanship and riding skills to staff, guests, and riders, ensuring correct techniques and safe practices.
· Supervise and instruct riders in the use of protective equipment and safety protocols.
· Assist with daily care and stable management, including grooming, tack maintenance, and facility upkeep.
Skills and Experience Required
· At least two years of relevant full-time work experience as a Horse Trainer.
· Demonstrated ability to start and train horses from brumby or similar stock.
· Strong knowledge of natural horsemanship, groundwork, and advanced training techniques.
· Experience preparing horses for cattle station work and trail riding.
· Ability to assess horse health and apply treatment plans under veterinary guidance.
· Strong communication skills for training riders and staff.
· Commitment to animal welfare and safe riding practices.
Qualifications
While formal qualifications are not mandatory, a relevant qualification in Horse Training will be highly regarded.
