Lawyer - Family Law unit
- Fixed term contract (12 months)
- Salary commensurate with experience $82,858 to $107,674 per annum restricted practice lawyer range is $77,348 to $78,850) plus superannuation

About the role
We have an opportunity for a legal qualified to join the Aboriginal Legal Service of Western Australia Ltd (ALSWA) as a lawyer in the Perth based Family Law unit.
This position requires a person who is passionate about providing high quality legal assistance to Aboriginal people and is highly organised, self-motivated, with well-developed management skills and demonstrated ability to appear as an advocate in various courts.
Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture, society and the issues affecting Aboriginal people is required.
The lawyer is required to provide legal assistance, including advice and representation, in family law and child protection matters.
The lawyer will be expected to appear as counsel on a regular basis in the Family and Children's Courts including regional circuit courts as required.
About you
To be considered for this opportunity, you will need to meet the following criteria:
- Ability to appear as counsel in matters of varying complexity
- Knowledge of substantive law, the rules of evidence and practice and procedure
- High level organisational and time management skills with the ability to work under pressure
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team comprising legal and non-legal staff with a willingness to learn and share knowledge with others
- Excellent communication skills (interpersonal, written and verbal), conceptual and analytical skills
- Ability to work in a sensitive manner with clients
- Ability to travel when required
- You must be able to hold a current WA Practicing Certificate
