About the role
As the Regional Asset Manager of the East, South West regions, you will lead the charge in maintaining and improving the rail network across your designated region. This pivotal role combines strategic thinking, operational leadership, and stakeholder engagement to ensure the smooth and safe running of our network.
Reporting directly to the Director of Infrastructure, this leadership role will require you to balance day-to-day operational delivery with long-term planning, continuous improvement, and risk management. You’ll work closely with a range of stakeholders — from maintenance crews to local government and community groups — ensuring collaboration, efficiency, and customer-focused outcomes.
Your focus will include improving asset performance, optimising maintenance programs, managing major incidents, and driving a safety-first culture across your teams. Key Selection Criteria:
This role is broad, complex, and high impact, with responsibilities that include:
Lead, inspire, and manage a high-performing team across track, signals, and communications
Develop and implement annual works programs aligned to V/Line’s Asset Management Strategy
Optimise maintenance strategies, drive continuous improvement, and champion proactive maintenance
Coordinate planned service disruptions and minimise impacts to customers
Build strong relationships with local government, community groups, and key internal stakeholders
Manage regional budgets, performance targets, and ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards
Lead investigations of major incidents and drive rectifications
Shape the future of regional rail infrastructure through strategic planning and innovation
About You
You’re a confident and experienced leader with a passion for delivering safe, reliable infrastructure and inspiring high-performing teams. With a mix of technical expertise and people leadership, you thrive in dynamic environments where you can drive operational excellence and continuous improvement.
Our Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Tertiary qualifications (Engineering preferred) or equivalent relevant experience
Strong leadership skills, ideally in rail asset or infrastructure environments
Proven success managing multi-disciplinary teams in maintenance delivery
Excellent stakeholder engagement, relationship management, and communication skills
Experience working in unionised environments
Financial acumen and a continuous improvement mindset
