Job Title: Oceanographic Systems Manager
As part of the Australian Antarctic Program, you will use your technical skills to support scientific research in Antarctica and the Southern Ocean. Based at our Head Office in Kingston, southern Tasmania, you will lead a technical team providing specialised services including data collection, acoustics, computing, and instrumentation support.
We strive to maintain the Antarctic Treaty System, protect the Antarctic environment, understand the role of Antarctica in the global climate system, and undertake scientific work of practical, economic and national significance.
With a dynamic environment that provides many opportunities to work on different projects and tasks concurrently, you will be responsible for supporting specialised oceanographic & acoustic equipment associated with our Marine Science program.
To succeed in this role, you must hold and maintain a valid Australian motor vehicle drivers' licence, and be prepared for occasional out-of-hours and weekend work, as well as working in difficult, remote and harsh environments under limited supervision or in teams.
You will be pro-active, flexible, adaptable and able to work in environments which are sometimes stressful and where priorities change.
The successful applicant will have excellent leadership and technical skills, as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills, sound judgement and highly developed problem-solving capabilities, and good time management skills.
Key responsibilities include planning and coordinating the activities of a diverse technical team, developing and maintaining collaborative relationships with scientists, engineers and technicians, and managing technical infrastructure while implementing and promoting improved associated work practices.
