Primary objective
To support families and students to achieve educational outcomes by developing and maintaining communication links and support
mechanisms between the school, families, staff and outside agencies, with a focus on maximising student engagement and families
successfully commence in a distance education environment.
Context statement
Katherine School of the Air is a distance education school with a student population of 220 students – Preschool to Year 9 providing
online education using Microsoft Teams. The school strives for excellence using innovations in technologies and online teaching
pedagogies to enhance outcomes.
Key duties and responsibilities
Establish and support effective communication and partnerships between the school, families, dual schools and staff to support and
actively engage students to achieve educational outcomes and support families in a successful commencement in distance education.
1. Work collaboratively with parents, carers, home tutors, students, dual schools, principals and staff regarding student enrolment and
start up processes and guidelines, ensuring all parties are aware of their obligations.
1. Work collaboratively with families, home tutors, and students to coordinate online and in person training seminars and where
necessary facilitate referrals to appropriate support agencies.
3. Administer and analyse student assessments, maintain accurate data records and preparation of reports.
4. Provide administrative support and support to the school leadership team to access appropriate networks to develop a harmonious
and inclusive environment as well as facilitate support services to the school community.
Selection Criteria
Essential
1. Proven high level ability to work within a cross-cultural school environment, interact effectively with students, home tutors, dual
school principals, and families from diverse cultures and successfully develop mechanisms to promote student learning outcomes and
positive commencement in a distance education environment.
1. Demonstrated high level interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, coordinate, and present online and
in person seminars and develop strong networks and partnerships with schools, staff, students, home tutors, families, and community
agencies.
1. Demonstrated high level organisational and administrative skills, with demonstrated ability to show initiative and confidentiality and
maintain data accuracy and integrity.
1. Demonstrated high level ability to work collaboratively with school leadership teams to develop dual school arrangements for flexible
learning arrangements to cater for individual student needs.
1. Thorough understanding of students with additional needs and a high-level ability to provide ongoing support to the student and
families.
1. Demonstrated ability to work individually and as part of a team to collaboratively plan, coordinate and implement strategies, seminars,
and programs to increase student and family engagement.
1. Demonstrated high level computer literacy skills and familiarity with processes, applications and systems such as Microsoft Office,
Microsoft Teams, student data management systems, SAMS, GradeXpert, student testing systems, or demonstrated skills and ability
to very quickly acquire and apply this knowledge.
Desirable
1. A working knowledge of legislation and policies in the areas of education and family support.
