About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Process Safety Engineer to join our Manufacturing team at the Lytton Refinery.
In this role, you will provide process safety engineering support to enhance and continuously improve process safety performance across the refinery. This includes leading and supporting Management of Change activities, facilitating and contributing to safety assessment processes (HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, Bowtie, SFAIRP, and risk assessments), and supporting process safety related incident investigations.
You will also be responsible for monitoring and reporting on process safety performance, driving effective communication and engagement across the site, and maintaining a strong focus on continuous improvement of process safety systems and processes.
Key responsibilities:
* Provide day-to-day process safety support to Refinery operations, including Management of Change (MOC), risk assessments, incident management, performance monitoring, and database management.
* Act as a Change Evaluator within the refinery MOC system, facilitating risk assessments using approved methodologies, including the PRA process.
* Support delivery of the Refinery Operational Risk Management (ORM) program by coordinating and contributing to key program activities.
* Coordinate and support process safety assessments and studies, including HAZOP, HAZID, Bowtie, LOPA, and SFAIRP, working with risk owners to develop, communicate, and track mitigation actions.
* Analyse process safety performance data to identify trends, insights, and continuous improvement opportunities.
* Support process safety governance activities, including maintenance of the Refinery Safety Case, MHF licence renewal, and coordination of consequence modelling and risk studies.
About you
You are an experienced process safety professional with a strong passion for building and sustaining a positive safety culture. You consistently model safe ways of working, and your commitment to safety is demonstrated through the time you spend in the field, supporting teams to achieve improved safety outcomes.
You collaborate naturally and effectively across teams, openly sharing information, stepping in where needed, and holding yourself and others accountable to deliver strong results. You are hands-on and approachable, engaging confidently with operators, maintenance teams, and management to drive practical and meaningful safety improvements.
Qualifications
* Tertiary qualification in Chemical Engineering (Bachelor level or equivalent)
* Proven experience in process safety within a manufacturing or other high-risk industry, with a pathway toward RPEQ registration or Chartership.
* Strong knowledge of process safety and risk assessment methodologies, including HAZOP, LOPA, Bowtie, SFAIRP, Management of Change, and consequence modelling/QRA.
* Experience supporting or leading incident investigations, with a solid understanding of root cause analysis techniques.
* Detailed understanding of refining process technology, utilities, and industry best practices (desirable).
* Proficiency with process safety and risk tools such as PHAST, PHA-Pro, and Velocity EHS (desirable).
* Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work autonomously, develop action plans, and provide technical guidance.
