Counsellor Outreach Service (0.4 immediate start and recruitment pool)
Waratah is a well-established organization in the South West Region of Western Australia, offering responsive and innovative support for family and domestic violence, as well as sexual assault. Our services include counselling, assessment, safety planning, and advocacy for children, young people, adults, and their families.
Waratah acknowledges, honours and welcomes the diverse communities we share. We celebrate the extraordinary diversity of people's bodies, genders, cultures, sexualities, and relationships.
We encourage people from different backgrounds to apply including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people from CALD backgrounds and people with disabilities.
The Role
This is an opportunity to do meaningful specialist counselling work while helping shape the future of Waratah's outreach service in the Greater Busselton/Manjimup area.
This is a SCS(WA) Level 5, part‐time (up to 2 days a week) role where you will provide trauma‐informed counselling, risk assessment, safety planning, advocacy and referral support to adults and families who have experienced sexual assault, sexual abuse and/or family and domestic violence. The role works with a diverse and complex client base and requires a thoughtful, steady and skilled practitioner who can hold both therapeutic depth and practical safety planning.
The role is outreach‐based, which means the work is different from being located alongside a full counselling team each day. You will be part of Waratah's broader counselling and therapeutic services team, with access to supervision, case consultation, team meetings and clinical support, but the day‐to‐day role requires confidence, sound judgement and the ability to work autonomously.
The right person will have the opportunity to put their stamp on the outreach service: building trusted referral pathways, strengthening local relationships, supporting consistent and high‐quality client experiences, and helping shape how specialist counselling is delivered in the community.
This role would suit a counsellor who values professional autonomy, strong clinical practice, purposeful collaboration and the chance to contribute to a service that is still growing its local presence.
Please note that there is one 0.4 position for immediate start, but that suitable applicants may be considered for other future opportunities.

You will bring
* A relevant university qualification in psychology, social work, behavioural science, counselling or a human services field.
* At least two years' post‐qualification counselling experience.
* Demonstrated counselling and assessment skills with people (adults and/or children) who have experienced trauma and may have multiple factors contributing to vulnerability.
* Sound judgement in relation to risk assessment, safety planning, advocacy, referral and escalation.
* The ability to work autonomously in an outreach or community‐based setting while maintaining strong communication with supervisors and colleagues.
* Well‐developed professional boundaries, resilience, confidentiality and ethical practice.
* Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
* Cultural awareness and respect, including understanding of the impacts of colonisation on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
* Demonstrated cultural competency with culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
* Experience in sexual assault, sexual abuse and/or family and domestic violence counselling will be highly regarded. Knowledge of trauma‐informed practice and the Safe and Together Model would also be an advantage.

* Five weeks annual leave.
* Access to not‐for‐profit salary packaging benefits up to $15,900 per annum.
* Professional supervision.
* A supportive therapeutic services team.
* The opportunity to help shape and strengthen an outreach counselling service.
