Overview
Senior Data Scientist (with Data Engineering Edge) – Build the brain of next-gen property, from soil to settlement.
About PRiMAX
PRiMAX is a Sydney-based PropTech on a mission to transform how developers bring projects to market. We already have models in production driving real commercial outcomes, but this is just the start. The next step is establishing a stronger learning loop and high precision for the models, bringing in richer data sources, pushing the boundaries of mathematical optimisation, and scaling what we've proven in Australia and New Zealand to the world. Global expansion is on the cards for 2026.
We're finalists for PropTech Startup of the Year in our first year, with early traction that has developers rethinking the way they price and release projects. Our focus isn't dashboards or vanity metrics, it's business outcomes: maximising value, accelerating sales, de-risking launches, and helping developers capture upside they didn't know they were leaving on the table.
Why this role matters
You'll be the architect and builder of the intelligence that underpins our platform. That means applying advanced mathematics, optimisation, and modelling to guide multi-million-dollar decisions. Not just building models but proving, testing, and deploying the algorithms that shift outcomes for developers in the real world.
What you'll do
* Shape the data foundations: Build and maintain pipelines that bring order to messy property and behavioural data.
* Push the maths frontier: Take our current models to new levels of rigour and sophistication applying optimisation, simulation, Bayesian inference, and decision science where it makes sense.
* Operationalise intelligence: Turn mathematical models into live engines that power pricing and release decisions in production.
* Collaborate for impact: Work with founders, engineers, and industry insiders to translate mathematical insights into commercial wins.
* Raise the bar: Set quality standards in modelling, optimisation, and data engineering. Mentor the next wave of talent as we grow.
What we're looking for
* 5+ years in data science, with a strong applied maths, machine learning, or optimisation background.
* Exceptional at driving value-add opportunities and defining the pathway to get there
* Strong data engineering fundamentals: building ETL pipelines, orchestration and data governance
* Deep experience in Python and SQL, with comfort in statistical libraries, optimisation solvers, and ML frameworks.
* Strong mathematical toolkit: optimisation (linear, integer, dynamic programming), stochastic modelling (Monte Carlo, Markov chains), statistical inference (Bayesian methods), and machine learning.
* Experience taking models from research to production, with robust validation and monitoring.
* A product mindset: focus on outcomes, not just elegance. Able to explain complex maths in plain English.
* Startup DNA: comfortable with ambiguity, curious, adaptable, and ready to wear multiple hats.
The path ahead
This is a senior role now, with a clear line of sight to Chief Data Officer as we scale. You'll lay the mathematical and technical rails for a global data function, not just a set of models.
How we hire
We know it's easy to click "Easy Apply" and let AI draft you a cover letter. We're not anti-AI but if you want to stand out, make it personal. Tell us about one mathematical or optimisation model you shipped to production, the problem it solved, and how you measured success. Keep it human, keep it real.
