Grocery Manager to Assistant Store Manager Pathway

You will take ownership of the grocery department while developing the broader operational and leadership skills required to transition into a Store Assistant Manager position.
About the Role
You will be responsible for:
Leading and motivating a retail team
Driving department performance and productivity
Maintaining exceptional presentation and merchandising standards
Managing inventory, ordering, stock flow, and shrinkage
Analysing sales, margins, pricing, and promotional activity
Implementing high standards in cleanliness, organisation, and execution
Supporting broader store operations and leadership functions
Developing team members and building a strong workplace culture
What We're Looking For
The successful applicant will demonstrate:
Previous supermarket or premium food retail management experience
Strong understanding of modern food and grocery trends
Excellent stock management and inventory control skills
A sharp eye for visual merchandising and store presentation
Strong commercial awareness and attention to detail
Ability to lead from the front and motivate teams
Confidence managing staff performance and productivity
High standards, strong organisation, and pride in execution
Ability to work under pressure in a fast‐moving environment
A hands‐on leadership style with excellent communication skills
Highly Regarded
Experience in fresh food retailing
Understanding of premium and specialty grocery products
Experience with rostering, KPI management, and labour control
Desire to progress into senior store leadership
