Bayside Community Legal Service (BCLS), established in 1992, is a generalist legal practice that provides free legal assistance to the Bayside community. Dedicated to improving access to professional legal services, BCLS offers legal advice, casework, mediation, information dissemination, and referrals for those unable to access help otherwise. In addition to its core legal services, BCLS conducts Community Legal Education (CLE) activities and operates regular outreach clinic services across the Bayside area in collaboration with community and government partners. Supported by a team of legal professionals and over 100 dedicated volunteers, BCLS is driven by a commitment to empowering the community through accessible legal solutions.
Role Description
This is a full‐time, on‐site role for the Principal Solicitor at our Brisbane, QLD location. The Principal Solicitor will oversee the delivery of legal services and provide professional legal advice in various areas of law, including but not limited to family law, conveyancing, labor and employment law, and commercial real estate. Key responsibilities include managing a legal team, representing clients in complex legal matters, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, collaborating with community and government partners, and contributing to Community Legal Education activities. Additionally, the Principal Solicitor will supervise and mentor junior staff and volunteers.
Qualifications
* Expertise in Law, including Family Law, Conveyancing, and related legal areas
* Knowledge and practical experience in Labor and Employment Law and Commercial Real Estate
* Strong leadership and management skills with the ability to guide and mentor a team
* Excellent client communication and interpersonal abilities
* Strong ability to work collaboratively with community and government partners
* Bachelor's degree in Law and admission as a legal practitioner in Queensland
* Proficiency in handling multiple tasks in a high‐demands environment
* Commitment to social justice and the ability to work with a diverse community
* Experience in community legal services or not‐for‐profit organizations is an advantage
