Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical/dental practitioners for the above position in the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District. The position will be primarily located at Nepean Hospital within the Department of Surgery.
Successful applicants will have completed the Royal Australian College of Surgeons Fellowship Examination and FRACS training. Those eligible to sit the fellowship exam in the next 3 months and have completed their training may also be considered. If successful, the applicant will not be subsequently eligible to commence the Post Graduate Fellowship appointment until after the relevant qualifications and requirements are formally completed.
The position will be for an initial period of twelve months.

Selection Criteria
- Possess or be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Possess Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in general surgery or equivalent as provided for in the Health Insurance Act 1997 and the Staff Specialists (NSW) Award. Evidence of Continuing Medical Education and self-monitoring/audit practices.
- Sound clinical knowledge in General Surgery - Acute Emergency Surgery demonstrated through clinical practice and participation in quality assurance activities relevant to the specialty.
- High level interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching and junior medical staff supervision.
- Demonstrates the skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical/Dental Practitioner including professional conduct.
- Sound clinical knowledge in the subspecialty of Acute Surgical Unit demonstrated by relevant qualifications and/or appropriate post-Fellowship clinical experience.
- Familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support research as required within the Department.
Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Health Services Act 1997, and Staff Specialist (State) Award. Employees and Contractors must abide by the NSW Health Code of Conduct. The position requires a Working with Children Check (WWCC).
